Casinos are always coming out with new and improvised games to interest gamblers that come to play. Derived basically from the 3-card poker, the 4-card poker game has come to be played in many casinos nowadays and gamblers have shown a marked preference for this game of fortune.

It is obvious that games like 4-card poker game are luck games as players don’t have any influence on the cards they are dealt with and always have a slight disadvantage while they attempt to form a better hand than the dealer, with he getting six in comparison to their five cards to for the 4-card hand. However, the only incentive for players is the automatic ante bonus payout which he is entitled to receive if his hand has not folded and this specific payout is independent of whether his hand is ranked better than the dealer. So, it is important for a successful 4-card poker player to be judicious in his decision to fold or play. And if he opts to play, he must prudently analyze his own hands and the dealer’s lone card that is revealed before he calls for to raise his bet size twice or thrice the ante wager; otherwise he may go for a flat bet, staking the same amount as the ante.

The perfect strategy in a 4-card poker game regarding when to raise and when to fold is very complicated but one may follow a simple tactics and win. In fact it has been calculated that when played optimally, the house edge is about 3.36% of the initial wager when one sums up the ante and play bets. So when a gambler plays the ante bet, he may find some success if he folds with a hand of pair of 2 card or less; or wagers the same amount as ante if he has a pair of cards from 3 to 9; or raises his ante bet three times with a hand holding a pair of 10 card or anything better.

An innovative gambling game that has become increasingly favored and played in the casinos is the 4-card poker game which owes something of its origin to the 3-card poker.

The betting system in a 4-card poker game is of two types – wagering on the ante and aces-up. Each player receives 5 cards out of which he has to form the bets possible 4-card hand. The dealer however receives five hole cards and a sixth card with its face up and is also required to make his own 4-card hand. The players can only see their own cards and the dealer’s face up card and can either fold or continue to play. Folding means the bet placed is lost whereas if one chooses to play, he may raise his bet by wagering as much as he staked for ante or double or triple that amount.

In a game of 4-card poker, of the possible combination the best 4-card hand will be the four of a kind while the least valued would be high cards. In their hierarchy of being the best possible hand, other combinations that can happen are straight flush, three of a kind, flush, straight, two pair and one pair. The bonus payout for one who holds a four of a kind hand is as high as 25-to-1, whereas a straight flush will fetch his 20-to-1 odds and three of a kind hand wins a payout of 2-to-1. The ante bonus that is paid out does not depend a player having better hand than the dealer. The aces-up bet is based on how a player’s payout is ranked without any reference to the dealer’s hands.

There is an edge to the dealer as he can choose his best 4-card hand from six instead of five cards. For the players, bonus payout and scope to raise bet twofold or threefold ensures good returns while folding takes makes him forfeit his ante bet even if his hand turn out to be better than the dealer’s.

It is important to know of some tactics and follow them if one wants to make an impact in a 3-card poker tournament and emerge as a winner. One of the first and foremost things that a player should not do is placing larger bets. It is a common psychological fallacy that placing higher bets means with some luck, more money can be won. However, this fact is not supported by any mathematical formula and it has been often calculated that those who play for higher bets, generally lose. And in a typical 3-card poker tournament, the odds of a large hand is extremely low and improbable, if not totally impossible. Moreover, anyone playing with large bets must make the allowance of playing lesser number of hands if he loses and a gambler eyeing the ultimate prize should not let this happen. In fact it has been mathematically calculated that as larger bets mean larger losses, it can eliminate players prematurely. For example, in a tournament played with an initial amount of $3000 with 20 hands of play possible in a round, a player will go bankrupt in just four rounds if he wagers $250 on ante and pairplus bets as each loss will make him poorer by $750. Moreover, it is also advisable to put equal bets on the ante and pairplus wagers as it has been practically seen that placing a heavier bet on either one of them eventually means a loss-making investment.

Another thing to remember for the player aiming to win a 3-card poker tournament is not to follow Martingale betting strategy. The reason is that the 3-card poker game is so much based on fortune that there are no grounds to assume that betting more or less on a particular hand, can improve one’s chance to win or lose. So, it is best to decide on the bet size and wager the same amount every time.

For anyone wishing to make a big winning in a 3-card poker tournament, some strategy needs to be followed and one such is to be wary of investing in bonus rounds. This bet is usually designed to give an edge to the house and without any inducement of increasing the odds of winning, it actually increases the entry fee in the tournament. Moreover, it is important to remember to bet evenly and make most wagers on safe bets rather than lowering bet size after losing big.

The secret of successful 3-card poker players is that they follow the call and fold tactics consistently and always seek to fold their hand if they don’t have a queen, 6, 4, or higher card. However, bet size is an equally important factor in a 3-card poker tournament. Since the dough that is played with in the tournament is not real money but only provides the players with their rank of play, it is a clever ploy to try to capitalize on this money even by playing with risk as losing would not mean actual monetary loss.

It is absolutely necessary to win individual rounds and come to the final round of play in a 3-card poker tournament for any player to stand the chance of making a winning. While, different tournaments follow many variations to come up with a set tactics of play, it has been calculated that higher the amount of money staked in ante and pairplus wagers, chances of losing money also increases. However, this does not necessarily mean that to bet low is the sure way of winning initial rounds and get a chance to compete in the final round. With luck playing a major role in such 3-card tournaments, it has been found that when a large number of players are playing even optimal betting would need a push of luck to take a player to the final round. So mid-level bets seem to have a higher chance of winning rather than very low or very high wagers.

3-card poker has long been a popular game with gamblers frequenting to the casinos in Las Vegas and for them especially 3-card poker tournaments have become an important occasion. While increasingly buy-in system like other major poker tournaments is being introduced for players interested in participating in these competitions, many other casinos only allow gamblers who have won sizeable payouts in regular games a chance to enter. The main attractions of these 3-card poker tournaments are the simple rules of gameplay and the huge pot.

The tournament consists of either one or sometimes more than one rounds of play. In case of more than one playing rounds, the gamblers play a certain number of hands and their stock of chips is counted at the end of the round. The individual score of the players are calculated to arrive at his final score. The six bet players contend for the jackpot in the final round. Here all the players start as equal contenders for the prize and their winnings from earlier rounds is not brought forward. All major 3-card poker tournaments, participated by as many as 100 to 200 gamblers, has provisions to award a prize money to the other five finalists along with the jackpot to the winner.

The basic tactics for being a winning 3-card poker player in tournaments is the same as regular casino play. So, anyone who does not have a queen, 6 or 4 card in his hand should opt for folding his hand as his ultimate aim is to win big and not all individual hands. It has been estimated that placing more money on stake for either ante or pairplus games does not entitle a big payout and may even cause the gambler to lose. So it is imperative to wager equal dough on both versions of play and also to keep the bet size low so that losing a few hands would not mean needing to drop out from the whole round.
